Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MAWWFRS) has expanded its drone capabilities by training seven new Remote Pilots (RPs) in operating drones for emergency scenarios. Conducted by Aviation Systems Group at the Wales Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) Training Centre, the four-day course included legal, safety, and practical flight training, culminating in a flight assessment at Margam Country Park. The use of drones in emergency services offers enhanced safety, situational awareness, rapid assessment, improved accessibility, and thermal imaging capabilities, aiding in incidents like wildfires and structural collapses. The Wales USAR Team, including MAWWFRS, frequently deploys drones for real-time situational analysis in emergencies.
