2. Preparing Your Device

2.1 Device Compatibility

Osmo Mobile 8P is compatible with smartphones with a width of 67-84 mm, thickness of 6.9-11 mm, and weight of 170-300 g.

2.2 Device Charging

Please use the included charging cable to charge the gimbal until the battery level indicator turns off.

Note: It takes approximately 2.5 hours to fully charge.

2.3 Unfolding and Folding

Unfolding

The roll axis is locked by default. Rotate it to unlock the roll axis before unfolding the arm. The gimbal and the Osmo FrameTap on the handle will power on automatically.

Folding (Storage)

Retract the built-in extension rod, then press and hold the power button. The gimbal will automatically rotate to the proper position for folding and power off.

Note: The built-in extension rod is spring-loaded. Leaving it extended for a long period of time (more than one week) may cause it to lose its shape. We recommend retracting and folding it after use.

2.4 Mounting the Phone

1. Remove the phone clamp from the gimbal and attach it to the center of your phone, making sure the camera faces the correct direction.

2. Align the magnetic connector and attach the phone to the gimbal. Once the phone clamp snaps into place, the gimbal will automatically stabilize the phone. If stabilization is inactive, press the power button once to enable it.

Note: When the phone is attached to the gimbal, the phone’s compass may be affected by magnetic interference. If prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to recalibrate it. NFC and wireless charging may also be unavailable while the phone clamp is attached. These functions will return to normal once the clamp is removed.

2.5 Connecting DJI Mimo

Download and open the DJI Mimo app, enable Bluetooth on your phone, and connect Osmo Mobile 8P to your phone.

2.6 Firmware Update

Once connected to the DJI Mimo app, you’ll be prompted if a new firmware update is available. Follow the on-screen instructions for the best experience. If Osmo FrameTap is attached to the handle, it will be updated at the same time.

Note:

· Before updating, make sure the gimbal has enough battery and your mobile device has a stable internet connection.

· During the update, do not remove Osmo FrameTap, close the DJI Mimo app, or run it in the background.

· If the update fails, restart DJI Mimo, reconnect via Bluetooth, and try again.

3.2 Using Osmo FrameTap

Osmo FrameTap lets you control the gimbal remotely from up to 10 meters away via Bluetooth or Wi‑Fi.

3.3 Low-Angle Shooting

Osmo Mobile 8P supports low-angle shooting. Extend the built-in extension rod and tilt the pan axis fully forward to the limit, and the gimbal can get closer to the ground. This lets you easily capture unique low-angle shots of pets, flowers, and more, adding a more creative and intimate feel to your footage.

3.4 Gimbal Follow Mode

When powered on, the gimbal defaults to PTF mode. Press the power button once to cycle through the available modes based on your shooting needs.

3.5 DJI Mimo ActiveTrack

With ActiveTrack enabled in the DJI Mimo app, the gimbal can accurately track people and other subjects. It supports people, cats, dogs, vehicles, and even custom-selected subjects, so it’s easy to keep your subject in frame wherever you go.

3.6 Apple DockKit Tracking

Enables smooth subject tracking directly in your phone’s native camera app or supported third-party apps.
